Once a sleepy fishing town, Marbella is now the cosmopolitan tourist capital of Spain's Costa del Sol and a favourite for visitors to the Mediterranean. Historical Marbella is confined mainly to the old quarter of the City, with Moorish and Andalucian architecture abounding in its narrow streets, 'Orange Square' and its castle. More modern distractions for the visitor include the spectacular golf courses (more than 40 can be found on the Costa del Sol!), horse-racing, shopping, wining and dining, sunbathing on the gorgeous beaches, and for the Ski enthusiast, the Sierra Nevada resort is only an hour and a half away by car.
